Messi in Argentina to train for World Cup

Argentina’s forward Lionel Messi arrived in the country today and said he is ready to “switch gears” and have a great World Cup with the national squad after a lacklustre performance this season at Barcelona.

Messi, who stopped in Buenos Aires before arriving in his home town Rosario, said meeting with his teammates in the squad will help him focus on the World Cup and forget about his past season in the Spanish club.

“Now I have to think about the national squad and switch Sears,” the forward said to reporters and admitted this “has not been his best year” at Barcelona. “I wish I could have finished the season differently, but it was a group thing, not only an individual matter”.

Along with the rest of the 30 players selected for the Argentina squad, Messi will start to train on May 26 in Ezeiza. “I am happy to be in Argentina again, to think about what’s next, the World Cup, to enjoy being with my family, my people, and to give my best starting on the 26,” he said.
