INDEC: Unemployment up to 7.1%

The National Statistics and Census Institute (INDEC) has revealed that unemployment levels rose in the first three months of 2014, reaching a total of 7.1 percent of the population.

The figure, released today by the government data agency, is lower than the same period in 2013, where 7.9 percent were out of work; but it represents a rise of 0.7% compared to the last three months of the previous year, when INDEC reported a total of 6.4%.

The organisation indicated that at the start of 2014, taking data from 31 urban centres, the labour force represented 45 percent of the population. Employment levels totalled 41.8 percent, with unemployment at 7.1 percent.

Under-employment, meanwhile, was registered at 8.1 percent of the population, while INDEC highlighted that unemployment stayed under 10 percent for the 30th consecutive trimester.
