Asked about Federal Court order to investigate into the agreement signed between state-owned oil company YPF and Chevron Corporation, Cabinet Chief Jorge Capitanich considered the reactivation of the case “strange” and said there are foreign and local agents “trying to break the government’s credibility.”
“This type of reactions are no coincidence,” Capitanich said and asserted that Argentina has rich strategic reserves and an “extraordinary potencial” and that in order to develop it the government needs access to international funding which is currently obstructed by Vulture Funds.
“I’m not surprised by these actions that tend to create conditions that complicate our access to the capital market needed to achieve energy self-sufficiency,” he added.
Capitanich also criticised “radicalizad interest groups”, including environmental activists: “They want Argentina not to racionally exploit its richness,” he said.
