Economy Minister Axel Kicillof and Federal Planning chief Julio de Vido have announced the opening for tenders to install two new bands for 4G mobile telephones, which will allow for an improvement in the service in Argentina.
According to Kicillof, the move would open the door for 4G technology in the nation, the most modern service currently available. The nation’s telephone operators have still to complete the network of 3G generation receivers.
«Mobile broadband has not penetrated enough. An advance in 3G is needed to open the door for 4G, which is what we are doing today,» the minister signalled in a press conference held at midday.
The politician added that installing the new technology «carries with it heavy investment requirements. This announcement must be accompanied by businesses who are up to the challenge.»
The tenders, according to Kicillof, will be open and available on an international basis.
«This was also a won decade in the field of celular phones,» he asserted, highlighting the fact that in the country 59 million mobile phone lines had been sold, of which 76 percent were currently active.
