Senator Fernando ‘Pino’ Solanas and lawmakers Margarita Stolbizer and Ricardo Alfonsín have rejected the prospect of an alliance with the PRO party led by Mauricio Macri, casting doubt over the proposed Broad Front Unen alliance one day before its official launch.
The Project South and Gen leaders, alongside radical politician Alfonsín, explained that they were not prepared to ally with the party, after Civic Coalition deputy Elisa Carrió and some UCR members refused to close the door on possible collaboration.
«Project South has the mark of political coherence, and after carrying out two campaigns against the PRO and the national government what will the voter say, if we ally,» Solanas fired in an interview with Radio Del Plata, describing an electoral pact as «foolish.»
Stolbizer, meanwhile, pointed out political differences between the two spaces: «Macri leads the centre-right, us the centre-left. There should be no confusion.»
Alfonsín echoed his colleagues’ words, maintaining that «if eventual agreements with other forces are to be discussed, it is because those forces do not and will not make up part of this coalition.»
The Broad Front Unen will be launched tomorrow at 18.30 in the Broadway theatre, on Corrientes Avenue, with the signing of a commitment to an agreement with the participation of eight parties who will join the electoral front.
