Buenos Aires City Mayor Mauricio Macri has blamed an “absent state” and the “lack of an integral security policy” over the recent lynching cases that happened in Santa Fe, Mendoza and the City neighborhood of Palermo.
“These cases occur when the state abandons the citizen, when the sate refuses to defend the people, when there’s no integral security policy for over ten years”, Macri said to reporters during a visit to Mendoza.
According to the City Mayor very little can be done to improve security if police “earn a dreadful salary” and “lack equipment”.
“The state has to be active, but also the justice and education systems have to play their part”, Macri added, following Renewal Front lawmaker Sergio Massa’s earlier comments on the matter.
“The justice system has a fundamental role to play, because in most of these cases delinquents have entered and left prison systematically».
«Another important aspect is to follow the kid’s education, because those who leave school are the ones who fall into criminal organizations”, he concluded.
