The strike called by anti-government trade unionists Hugo Moyano and Luis Barrionuevo is political and aims at supporting an opposition candidate, Cabinet Chief Jorge Capitanich has affirmed.
“These union players seek to set an opposition strategy against the government; they are committed from a political perspective with the (Sergio Massa’s) Renewal Front and for that this strike is political, to support a candidate,” the head of ministers did not hesitate to say this morning during his daily brief to the press at the government house, unveiling a Moyano-Barrionuevo alliance to back opposition MP Sergio Massa ahead of the 2015 presidential elections.
Both CGT anti-government union splinters – one headed by trucker Hugo Moyano, the other by leader of the gastronomic Uthgra union Luis Barrionuevo -, have announced a walkout for April. Secretary General of the CTA that also opposes the Cristina Fernández de Kirchner administration Pablo Micheli has said they will join the protest action. A press conference has been announced for this afternoon when union leaders are expected to set the date for the walkout.
According to Capitanich, there seems to be “hidden” interests lying behind the Moyano-Barrionuevo walkout, “just like the are no neutral media or neutral journalistic versions” because media tend to “support” candidates “even if they hide” their true intentions.
The figure of Luis Barrionuevo has indeed caused political upset among Kirchnerites over the past days when the Uthgra head publicly said that ex late president and husband of Cristina Fernández Néstor Kirchner “screwed himself over by dying at the age of 60” and accused the Victory Front administration of “stealing more” than the bloody military dictatorship that run Argentina during the 70’s and 80’s did.
