BA province teachers under pressure to end 11-day strike

Secretary General of the Suteba union Roberto Baradel (C) warned teachers will not end the strike till the BA province makes a better salary offer.
The Buenos Aires province Ombudsman’s office has called provincial authorities and education unions to a conciliation hearing on Thursday, amid a salary conflict that has hit day 11 leaving around 3.2 million students without classes.
The meeting has been scheduled for tomorrow at 9.30 in the City of La Plata, where Ombudsman Carlos Bonicatto will renew his demand to teachers to put an end to their 11-day walkout.
“The continuation of the conflict with empty classrooms does nothing but to violate the right of thousands and thousands of poor-income families that make use of the free education system and suffer negative consequences,” Bonicatto warned yesterday.
Meanwhile, the Daniel Scioi administration will file an appeal to guarantee classes in Argentina’s most populated district if teachers don’t lift the strike tomorrow.
