Scores late equalizer for Argentinos Juniors at La Bombonera
Leonardo Pisculichi ruined Boca Juniors’ party yesterday as he netted a late equalizer for Argentinos Juniors at La Bombonera stadium. Carlos Bianchi’s side were looking for their third straight victory.
Boca Juniors and Argentinos Juniors drew 1-1 yesterday at La Bombonera stadium in a match for the eighth round of the Final Tournament in which the host failed to seal the victory and suffered a late equalizer.
Carlos Bianchi’s team, who had won its last two matches, was the best of both sides and dominated the game during almost the 90 minutes. However, Argentinos scored in its first clear scoring opportunity three minutes before the end of the match to shock the home fans. Leonardo Pisculichi equalized with a curling shot from outside the box for the joy of the visitors who are fighting against relegation.
“If we had won, we would be two points behind Colón and Estudiantes. I don’t have anything to reproach to the players, but we were winning and we failed to seal the victory. We are going to keep fighting against the title contenders,” said Bianchi in a press conference after the match.
Boca went ahead in the 37th with a goal scored by striker Emanuel Gigliotti. He received a pass from youngster Luciano Acosta and found himself unmarked inside the box to send the ball home.
The host wasted its scoring chances to seal the win, Pisculichi took advantage of that, and with his skills netted the equalizer.
“We made a huge effort and we clinched a point. We wanted to win and today’s draw will be important if we win at home,” said Pisculichi.
