The board of Primera Division strugglers Racing Club have confirmed that coach Reinaldo Merlo would be staying in his position, despite yesterday’s 2-0 defeat at Newell’s Old Boys leaving the Avellaneda club rooted at the bottom of the table.
«Merlo is under contract until December and he will remain as Racing coach,» spokesman Roberto Torres informed following a meeting held this afternoon.
As a result, ‘Mostaza’ will stay on the bench at the club which he led to the 2001 Apertura championship for Saturday’s clash against Belgrano.
The latest reverse, sealed by goals from Ezequiel Ponce and David Trezeguet, was Racing’s sixth defeat in the last seven matches and means that La Academia have picked up just four points out of an available 24 this season.
