President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner has criticised what she dubbed a «double standard» from the United Kingdom, due to the nation condemning the Crimean referendum on union with Russia while supporting the rights of Malvinas residents to hold a vote on their future.
«If those who are carrying out the plebiscite in Crimea are in the wrong, the ‘Kelpers’ on the other hand are fine,» the head of state fired ironically, speaking out on recent tensions between Russia and the European Union over the region.
In the president’s eyes, Britain’s stance over the disputed Ukrainian region «does not stand up to the slightest analysis.»
«Right now the conflict with Argentina is based on a double standard. Now all of the great powers vote in favour of self-determination for a population. They cannot put themselves forward as keepers of the world,» CFK asserted.
The president spoke out following today’s meeting with Pope Francis, with whom she shared a lunch in the Vatican City.
