Although wage negotiations with unionized teachers seem to have reached a deadlock (at least until Monday when talks will be resumed), Cabinet Chief Jorge Capitanich praised the parties’ “pro-dialogue” position and considered “positive” the workers’ decision to halt the strike action they had announced earlier in the week.
In his daily brief to the press, the head of ministers confirmed the collective bargaining process will be resumed by the beginning of next week. “We see both parties’ will to continue dialoguing. Unions dropped their action measure and that is a very good instance to strengthen dialogue,” Capitanich told reporters at the government house this morning.
During Tuesday’s talks, the CTERA education union demanded a salary floor of 4,860 pesos, while other unions asked for 5,500 pesos. Meanwhile, the government insisted on moving the salary floor from 3,416 pesos to 4,165 pesos.
