Cabinet Chief Jorge Capitanich today insisted the government is negotiating initial salaries with teachers although the ultimate salary scheme will depend on the negotiations held in each province.
«The government establishes an initial salary, but provincial governors will make their decision based on their fiscal projections and on the results of their strategies negotiations,” he stated during his daily press conference at the Government House.
He added talks with teachers who are demanding a wage hike and threatening with a strike, will continue today, and that the government’s offer will be expressed in that context. Negotiations to set the initial salaries of teachers will be concluded “between today and tomorrow,” he said, again hinting about the possibility the government might decide on the matter by decree.
He went on to challenge the Renewal Front headed by lawmaker Sergio Massa to define their political position as they had pushed for wage talks to begin earlier «and now they are suggesting to postpone them.»
