Government urges energy providers to restore service

CapitanichCabinet Chief Jorge Capitanich today gave a press briefing to inform about the results of a meeting he held earlier at the Government House with representatives of the Planning Ministry, the ENRE regulator agency, and of Edenor and Edesur, the two energy giants which provide electricity service in Buenos Aires city and province.

They met to analyse the crisis spurred by massive blackouts and a record in energy consumption.

“We have urged the companies which provide the service to restore it,” he said. “We received the presidential order to inform them about the need to immediately find a solution to the problems users are suffering in different areas,” he added.

He said the government “expressed its concern and enormous anger amid the lack of answers to 2.5 million electricity users.”

Edenor and Edesur, both signed concession contracts which they must observe and are fully responsible for the failures in the service, Capitanich stressed and warned: “The ENRE will make them honor the concession contracts.” “I they cannot provide the service, the national government is willing to do so,” he fired.
