Tucumán’s Supreme Court has overturned the ruling which cleared 13 suspects of involvement in the disappearance of Marita Verón, and sent 10 of those accused in the human trafficking case back to be sentenced for the crimes.
The magistrates released two other defendants, and declared the expiration of criminal action against a third accused who died in last February.
Four of the accused were considered by the tribunal judges as co-authors of the crimes of kidnapping and false imprisonment for the purpose of prostitution, while another six were named as accomplices.
The Court also ruled that the sentences, how they are implemented and the existence of civil responsibilty would have to be decided by the original court.
Susana Trimarco, mother of ‘Marita’, stated that she does not have the time to celebrate the ruling “because nobody is looking for her”, nor the wiliness to thanks the judges.
“It’s their duty and that’s why they are being paid for”, she added.
María de los Ángeles Verón was 23 year-old when she disappeared on April 3, 2002, on the way to a medical examination in a Tucumán hospital.
