The so called “blue dollar” climbed seven cents today at 9.60 pesos for buyers and 9.65 pesos for sellers. Yesterday’s hike had previously pushed prices of the informal currency up 32 cents.
Traders say tourist demand for greenbacks in the informal market has increased following the government’s decision to take the 20 percent levy on credit and debit card purchases as well as on the purchase of the US currency to 35 percent.
Meanwhile, official rates were two and a half cents higher in exchange offices and banks at 6.18 (buying price) and 6.23 (selling price).
