Foreign Minister Héctor Timerman has urged the world’s most advanced economies to lower trade barriers, particularly for agricultural, stating that it was a necessary measure to encourage growth in developing nations.
«Developing nations continue to suffer barriers and subsidies against exporting products, especially agricultural goods,» the politician stated today.
«Our countries do not need an inflexible liberalisation that crystallises production and commercial structures around primary goods and manufactured products of low added value,» he added.
«Reducing the barriers to access markets in developed nations is a necessary condition for development, while it also allows us to generate indispensible foreign currency reserves in order to pay for the growing imports associated with growth and industrialisation.»
Timerman spoke in Bali, Indonesia, at the ninth ministerial conference of the World Trade Organisation (WTO).
