AMIA case judge rejects demand for unconstitutionality

Federal Judge in charge of the AMIA investigation Rodolfo Canicoba Corral ruled out the demand by Jewish community organizations to declare the unconstitutionality of the Memorandum of Understanding reached between Buenos Aires and Tehran to probe the 1994 bombing.
The MoU was signed and passed into law by congress ealier this year with the new Iranian administration of President Hassan Rouhani confirming the bilateral agreement. Ever since it was approved, AMIA and DAIA groups voiced their condemnation of the accord urging justices to declare its unconstitutional nature.
Canicoba Corral made clear that the Interpol red notices issued against Iranian citizens allegedly involved in the deadly attack will not be lifted. “Judges are the only authority with the power to lift the international arrest warrants,” he said in a statement today.
