Elected deputies take oath of office at the Lower House.
The 127 deputies who were elected in October’s midterms were sworn in today. Victory Front’s Martín Insaurralde and Renewal Front’s Sergio Massa took oath of office with Lower House authorities being renewed. Julián Domínguez was re-elected as president of the second chamber.
Kirchnerite MP representing the province of San Juan Daniel Tomas was the first legislator to take office. Tomas is recovering from the helicopter crash that resulted in the dead of lawmaker Margarita Ferrá de Bertol and with Governor José Luis Gioja still under hospital treatment.
The results of the October 27 elections allowed the government to secure its parliamentary majority counting on 118 lawmakers under the ruling Victory Front ballot and 14 lawmakers aligned with the Kirchner administration. The Radical Party turned into the second political force in the Lower House with 41 representatives including two ally deputies for the province of Catamarca.
Despite defeating Martín Insaurralde in the province of Buenos Aires, Sergio Massa’s Renewal Front got then the third position in the Lower House followed by PRO party lawmakers commanded by Buenos Aires City Mayor Mauricio Macri.
