Cristina switches her team: Capitanich cabinet chief, Kicillof economy minister

cfk teamPresident Cristina Fernández de Kirchner has decided to make several changes to her cabinet of ministers following disappointing results for the Victory Front in October’s legislative elections.

CFK moved to change a number of ministers on the same day she reassumed executive powers, after a month-long leave of absence following brain surgery.

Chaco governor Jorge Capitanich is rewarded for a strong poll performance with a new role as Chief of the Cabinet, while Axel Kicillof is promoted to Economy Minister in two of the most eye-catching switches made by the head of state.

Current incumbent Hernán Lorenzino will as a result move to head up a task-force charged with restructuring Argentina’s foreign debt, while the minister will also be proposed as ambassador to the European Union.

Other changes include the naming of Carlos Fabrega, the chief of Banco Nación, as the new head of the Central Bank, while INTA president Carlos Casamiquela will take over as Minister of Agriculture.
