AMIA prosecutor demands Memorandum with Iran to be declared unconstitutional

Alberto NismanAMIA special prosecutor Alberto Nisman has requested Judge Canicoba Corral to declare the unconstitutionality of the Memorandum of Understanding reached between Argentina and Iran and signed into law by Congress earlier this year.

Nisman considered the bilateral accord an “incorrect interference” of the government in judicial affairs.

In his statement, Nisman warns Argentina “runs the risk” of facing sanctions by “Human Rights international organizations,” thus demanding the Supreme Court to declare the unconstitutional nature of the Buenos Aires-Tehran agreement that was signed in Ethiopia on January 27 and aims at probing the 1994 bombing of the AMIA Jewish community center in Argentina’s capital city.
