The Renewal Front has confirmed that it will not take any part in upcoming elections for the Justicialist Party (PJ) in Buenos Aires province, after Malvinas Argentina mayor Jesús Cariglino withdrew his candidacy.

«The Renewal Front will not participate in any internal election because the people’s priorities are elsewhere. That settled, and while other fight over titles, we in the Renewal Front want to discuss how we can stop drugs in Argentina,» the party, led by lawmaker-elect Sergio Massa, announced in a statement.

The missive added that the Renewal Front, after a positive result in Buenos Aires in October’s legislative election, was «building an alternative» and, for that reason, asserted that «the internal politics of the PJ is a reflection of the lack of awareness over what the ballots demonstrated.»

«In this space we choose not to fight for a stamp, but we want to fight against crime and inflation, which are destroying people’s lives,» the text concluded.

Massa had previously registered his opposition to running in the party elections, describing the PJ as «a building that is falling to pieces».
