Cristina Fernández de Kirchner met her Parayuan counterpart Horacio Cartes, arriving in BA City amid his first official visit to Argentina. The presidents held a joint press conference at the government house.
Cartes took office a month ago following the impeachment of Fernando Lugo last year in a move South American leaders considered an “institutional coup,” calling for democratic elections to be held in neighboring Paraguay.
Back in April, Cartes won the elections with more than 45 percent of the ballots.
According to an official statement by Argentina’s Foreign Ministry, presidents addressed both bilateral and regional issues, including economic and social development projects in border areas.
Cristina Kirchner was expected to offer lunch in honor of Cartes at the Bicentenario Museum of the Casa Rosada presidential palace.
