Berni says Gov’t not toughening crime policies

BerniSecurity Secretary Sergio Berni denied the federal government was readying a “toughening against crime” agenda and affirmed instead official plans are to fuel “much more efficient” federal forces to battle crime.

“If tough means making use of all of our police officers, providing them with operational abilities, making them professionals to prevent crime and find criminals, name it the way you want to name it. What are rather becoming tougher are judicial rulings,” Berni told reporters.

As the security debate ramps up ahead of October’s legislative elections, the Kirchnerite official yesterday blasted the security plan presented by parliamentary candidate and Mayor of the Buenos Aires province district of Tigre Sergio Massa accusing him of “lobbying” for security companies.
