Once ex Argentinean judge Otilio Romano -allegedly involved in human rights violations- arrives in the country, his defence will have to cope with a preventive detention request issued by the Public Prosecutor Office of the province of Mendoza.
Acting Attorney General Patricia Santoni made the order to the Mendoza federal court in charge of Romano’s case, investigating him over serious and reiterated violations to human rights during Argentina’s 1976-1983 civil-military dictatorship.
On Friday, the Supreme Court of Chile authorized the extradition of the former official. According to judicial information, Romano would be handed over to Interpol agents to have him transferred to the province of Mendoza.
Otilio Romano remains a fugitive since September 2011, only a few days before a court decided on his impeachment following such human rights crime allegations.
