Alak appoints Alejando Marambio as new SPF chief

AlakAlejandro Marambio has been appointed as the new chief of Argentina’s Federal Penitentiary Service (SPF), after Víctor Hortel’s resignation in hours following a jailbreak at Ezeiza prison.

Justice Minister Julio Alak announced Marambio’s appointment at a press conference held on Tuesday, highlighting the professional qualities of the new head who is «a lawyer and an expert on prison issues in Argentina and Spain».

As Marambio had already served as SPF chief in 2007-2011, Alak praised him for «making Argentina the only country in Latin America with no overpopulation in prisons» and having «the advantage of previous practical experience in the area».

Marambio will assume his duties on Wednesday, 21 August, at 11 am, upon his arrival from Spain.

Meanwhile, the Justice Minister announced a AR$ 500,000 reward for anyone who helps to find remaining 11 inmates who escaped from the Ezeiza prison on Monday evening.
