River Plate won the Winter Challenge Cup yesterday after beating Racing 4-2 in a penalty shootout at the Monumental stadium. The match finished 1-1.

Uruguayan Leonardo Migliónico put Racing ahead in the 26th minute with a header, while Manuel Lanzini equalized for the host in the 77th.

River will make its debut in the Initial Tournament on Sunday against Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata, which returned to the First Division after three season in the National B Division. Racing will face Colón.

Ramón Díaz’s side, who tomorrow will count on Colombia striker Teófilo Gutiérrez, played with its first team players yesterday and also new signings Jonathan Fabbro and Carlos Carbonero made their debut in the team.

Racing could hold the draw thanks to its goalkeeper Sebastián Saja, who continued with his positive performances. Luis Zubeldía’s team took advantage of its chances in the first half, but River was clearly the best side in the second.

In Córdoba, Talleres, who will play in the National B Division this season, defeated San Lorenzo 2-1 in a friendly game at the Mario Alberto Kempes stadium.

It was Talleres’ second victory over a First Division team, as the team from Córdoba also beat archrival Belgrano 1-0 last Sunday.

The visitors were the dominant side, but Talleres hit first in the 28th minute when Juan Sánchez Sotelo scored after a defensive mistake.

In the 43rd, the host doubled the difference with another goal netted by former Racing striker Sánchez Sotelo.

Matías Catalán pulled one back for San Lorenzo a minute later.
