While attending a meeting in Tandil, Defence Minister Agustín Rossi denied that questioned Army Chief César Milani ever tendered his resignation. Milani is being questioned by the political opposition for his alleged ties to human rights violations.
A day after President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner supported Milani’s appointment in a public rally, another high ranked official said: “We were surprised with the questioning because we never had problems when Milani was appointed in three different opportunities in the past”, Rossi said.
He also said that Milani has with the “approval of the president”
Last month, the head of the Military Intelligence Cesar Milani was designated Army Chief under a presidential decision.
However, a few days after the election, the local press denounced the General, after suspecting a possible involement in human rights violations from his part during the last dictatorial regime between 1976-1982.
Yesterday, the Senate was supposed to vote and approve Milani’s designation. But the Kirchnerite bloc didn’t showed up, and forced the resolution for after the elections.
Later, Fernández de Kirchner warned «I am not going to allow any type of media lynching from those who are only interested in hurting a government”.
Meanwhile, Army Chief Milani continues in his duty.
