“My Buenos Aires lawyers have advised me not to turn myself in because the resolution that orders the preventive detention has been appealed.” With such first comments, ex Transport Secretary Ricardo Jaime broke the silence since a federal judge ordered his detention over corruption allegations.
The statement was read by Jaime’s legal counselor Marcelo Brito in a local radio station. Prior to that, Brito had already warned the ex Secretary Transport during the Néstor Kirchner administration “will remain a fugitive” as “advised by his lawyer.»
On Monday, Federal Judge Claudio Bonadío declared Jaime in contempt of court as he continued to refuse to turn himself in until a ruling is issued on a prison waiver request that his lawyer had filed before judicial officials.
The former Kirchnerite official is being accused of embezzling relating to an eight-million-peso contract after he allegedly ordered the overpayment of two million pesos to renovate the Belgrano freight train service.
