Teachers march, call for a return to salary negotiations

Teachers unions held a march towards the House of the Province of Buenos Aires in the City while holding torches as they asked for higher salaries and for the provincial government to reopen negotiations for better salaries.

During the demonstration, SUTEBA secretary general Roberto Baradel warned that the unions would go attend a meeting with the provincial general director of Culture and Education, Nora de Lucía, to discuss salaries even though the Buenos Aires province government has decided to end negotiations after its 22.6 percent salary raise offer was rejected.

“If the Union Front goes to the meeting we will be discussing salaries. If not then this conflict remains unsolved,” he said as he called for a “respectable salary increase” and added: “There is no way we can accept a mere $300 pesos raise for six months.”

The demonstration ended in front of the House of the Buenos Aires province, on Callao 200.
