“We execute the fiscal policy, not the exchange policy,” head of the Tax Agency AFIP Rircardo Echegaray affirmed specifying political responsibilities as the blue dollar hit skyrocketing rates this week.
The Central Bank headed by Mercedes Marcó del Pont decides Argentina’s fiscal policy while, according to Echegaray, the AIFP “develops an activity destined to make those who must pay taxes pay what they have to pay and (make sure) they don’t set a trap to the state.”
At the Professional Council of Economic Science, the official avoided responding whether the national government is worried about the green climb at the parallel market.
“The parallel market is an illegal market and I am talking about taxes’ payment. We have no information about the illegal market,” Echegaray pointed out.
Surge of the black market rates came the same week AFIP’s resolution taking surcharge on credit card foreign purchases from 15-20 per cent became effective, including also tickets and trips abroad. “The government’s decision is that the authorization to buy foreign currency to travel isn’t used for different purposes,” the official warned.
