Worship Secretary Guillermo Oliveri considered that the sovereignty dispute over the Malvinas Islands was the “relevant” issue addressed by President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner and Pope Francis yesterday.
After the lunch she held with the newly elected pontiff, Fernández de Kirchner held a press conference and highlighted she had especially requested the Pope’s intervention to help foster dialogue between Argentina and the UK.
In statements to Del Plata radio station, the Victory Front official explained the government was “very” satisfied with the results of the meeting and praised the pontiff’s decision to receive Argentina’s delegation “first” with a “long lunch.”
“It was a beneficial encounter because of what it means to Argentineans and Catholics,” Oliveri pointed out and added that the President found the Pope “calm and certain.”
“The picture of the kiss between Cristina and Francis will go around the world,” the official stated and agreed that the first Latin American Pope in history surely faces «a too significant» challenge «ahead.»
