Civic Coalition lawmaker Elisa Carrió ratified her criticism of the potential agreement between Argentina and Iran to investigate the bombing of the AMIA Jewish community center back in 1994, and questioned the government’s strategy to muster quorum on the Lower House floor.
“As with (former President) Menem, there are fake lawmakers today”, Carrió said when referring to ruling party lawmakers who had taken a leave of absence and were asked to resign and return to their congressional seats. The CC lawmaker accused the government of “fraud” and said that the quality of the ruling class was “pathetic”.
Regarding the agreement, Carrió blasted the Buenos Aires-Tehran accord considering it leads Argentina to play a role in a “strategic game” with Iran and Syria. “The victims´ right to justice is at stake”, she said in statements to a local radio station.
The former CC political leader condemned Hector Timerman´s decision to foster the bilateral agreement and said he should have not signed it “neither as minister nor as a man of faith”.
