Luis Moreno Ocampo
Former prosecutor of the International Criminal Court Luis Moreno Ocampo, legal adviser of DAIA and AMIA Jewish organizations analyzed the accord between Argentina and Iran to investigate 1994 bombing and assured that “it seems that one of the aims of the government was to facilitate questionings.”
Moreno Ocampo was asked by Página 12 newspaper about his legal objections over the accord. “The role of the commission could have been more differentiated from the judges’ role, but it seems as though one of the aim of the argentine government was to facilitate questionings.”
“Doctor Diana Malamud, who represents one of the most sceptical groups, nevertheless welcomed this opportunity during the debate held in Congress. DAIA, on the other hand, believe that any cooperation with the Committee could annul the case. The Senate debated the issue and will solve it. If the creation of the commission is approved the selection of its members will be key. The future of the investigation of the AMIA bombing depends on them and on the clarity of the judge and the prosecutor.”
“AMIA bombing and the 9/11 attack in New York show the new forms of international terrorism. To investigate and to punish those responsible there was no other choice than going to war, like the US did with Afghanistan or negotiate with the state, like the memorandum suggests,” he added.
Moreno Ocampo stated that this is an opportunity for a seriou commission to launch an investigation and to prove that the coverup attempts confirm the guilt of the suspects and the complicity” of Iranian government offiicials.
