City Mayor Mauricio Macri once again assured he would not be running for a congressional seat in the midterm elections this year, and stated that he believes «he has what it takes» to run for president in 2015.
Macri praised his campaign staff, which he says will help him become president after “putting together the best team since the Frondizi administration.”
“I’m working to become president. We’re putting together a good team. There needs to be a renovation in politics,” the PRO leader said.
During a radio interview, the mayor said he thought it was “illogical” to run for a congressional seat for the province of Buenos Aires.
Macri spoke of his achievements as mayor of Buenos Aires and said he considers himself “a good alternative” to run against the Kirchnerites in 2015, although he warned he still has “three years of tough learning” ahead.
“It’s been many years of aggression, of trying to communicate something only to get yelled at from the other side. But people give me their support, they tell me to keep going. We haven’t managed to decide on a list of shared goals, of teamwork, as any normal country would,” he stated.
He also questioned President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner after assuring that “she has no interest” in seeing the city do well.
“We run a city that, in the end, is inhabited by Argentines. Not having a list of shared goals instead of trying to work together is a lot of wasted energy,” he added.
“I feel I can be president. I can put together a team that hasn’t been seen in Argentina since the Frondizi administration. I have a lot of business experience because of my years in Boca and after working as mayor. I think I know where the world is headed,” Macri said.
Before closing, he criticized the Kirchnerite party for allegedly trying to have Cristina re-reelected once more because “they have no plan B.”
“Cristina will try to seek re-reelection. They already did that in Santa Cruz, where they ended up owning the media and controlling the Justice system,” he warned.
