Bank workers to hold strike

In spite of the mandatory conciliation issued by the Labour Ministry, bank workers announced they will hold a strike as wage talks with bank chambers failed, and stated they will meet on Friday to define an action plan.

The Bank Association (AB central bank workers union) had previously announced that it would carry out strike action in all private and public banks in the country if the union’s wage demands were not reached.

Earlier, spokesperson for the AB union, Eduardo Berrozpe, assured that “tomorrow there will a strike” if the bank chamber did not up their wage offer that they put forward last Friday.

“There are some five or six percentage points missing from what the bank chambers offered,” Berrozpe said.

According to reports, the union demands a 35 percent wage increase, in line with the minimum wage floor agreed last year.

Representatives of the union and the four patron bank chambers (ADE-BA, ABAPRA, ABA y ABE) met on Monday this week to move toward an agreement, however since no accord was reached it has now been said that the Labour Ministry have to intervene in the issue.
