Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez is conscious and recovering a week after a cancer surgery he underwent in Cuba, and «in good conditions» after suffering a respiratory infection, according to Vice-President Nicolás Maduro.
«He’s well. He’s conscious,» Maduro stated during a press conference, «He’s fighting a great battle for his life, for his health.»
The Vice-President read the medical report in central Guarico state which said the «respiratory infection is still being treated and controlled by the doctors.»
Chávez, 58, is battling to recover from his fourth operation since he was first diagnosed with cancer in mid-2011.
