The Lower House of Congress debates today the government-sponsored teen suffrage bill, that if passed will allow 16-18 year olds the chance to vote in national elections.
The bill has already been preliminary approved by the Senate and is expected to be passed on Wednesday.
Lawmakers from the Radical Party, Peronist Front and PRO bloc are expected to vote against the bill, as the representatives of the Broad Progressive Front have already announced they will abstain from voting.
The head of the pro-government caucus Agustín Rossi yesterday called for a special session to begin at 11:45am.
The pro-government initiative establishes that the vote will be optional for those between 16 and 18 years old.
The Upper House of Congress preliminary approved the bill with 52 votes in favour and only three against.
