President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner announced that on Wednesday the Government will open up corn exports for an amount of 15 million tones.
While leading a ceremony at the Central Market, Fernández explained that the measure will be applied “to the next corn harvest, scheduled to begin in August.”
“Start harvesting corn boys, export is opening up,” she assured at the end of her speech as the audience gave her a big round of applause.
The President had previously said that “most of the food that reaches our table comes from the small and medium sized businesses and family farms.”
The President awarded several farm producers with government subsidies in the Central Market and praised that “over 16 million pesos had been given away in subsidies to districts La Plata, Berisso, Berazategui, Almirante Brown, General Rodríguez and Moreno, all of them areas strongly affected by last April’s tornado.
