Prosecutor Rodolfo Robatto requested asked Judge Guillermo Atencio the issuance of a preventive custody order for suspects Ignacio «Luli» Chavero and Fernando Marconi in connection to the murders of brothers Marcelo and Leonardo Massa shot dead at the BA province town of Cañuelas on July 1st.
The double-murder of the Massa brothers, who owned the “Doña Rosa” supermarket, was committed by two men who broke into the store as one of them killed both of them in front of several costumers. The two men escaped in a motorbike without stealing anything.
The prosecutor works now with the supposition the brothers were killed in a robbery attempt as opposed to the primary suspicion of a possible revenge attack, as police initially suspected.
“Witnesses’ accounts point to a possible robbery attempt”, judicial sources said.
Last week, Chavero pleaded not guilty and called for an identity parade with those who accused him. Meanwhile, Marconi told the prosecutor that he was not at the crime scene when the Massa brothers where murdered.
The crime has caused outrage amongst the local residents, leading to protests at the local Town Hall last week and popular outcry for justice.
