Paraguay’s ousted President Fernando Lugo summoned at least ten former ministers for a meeting called “A cabinet for democracy restoration” to be held hours before Vice-President Federico Franco takes oath as the new Head of State.
Thus, the former ministers of Economy, Health, Foreign Affairs, Interior, Information, and Public Works, among others, gathered at the headquarters of the País Solidario party, which is part of the Guazú Front left coalition that supported Lugo’s administration.
Before entering the meeting, Lugo’s former Cabinet Chief Miguel López Perito told reporters that the summit’s purpose was “to find a democratic solution to the current situation, and get those who have usurped power to give it back to its legitimate occupants.”
Meanwhile, Vice-President Federico Franco, who took the reigns after Lugo’s express impeachment, met today with the heads of the main oil companies present in Paraguay after yesterday’s announcement made by Venezuela’s Hugo Rafael Chávez Frías suspending all oil supply to a government that the Caribbean leader has qualified as “ not constitutional.”
Franco is to take oath at 12pm [Argentina time] along with his new cabinet of ministers. During the afternoon, the new President will meet with governors to then close the day by attending a factory’s inauguration.
