Paraguay’s ousted President Fernando Lugo confirmed today his intentions to attend this Friday’s Mercosur summit in Mendoza “to explain what has happened last ‘black’ Friday in my country”, in reference to the express impeachment process that swept him out of power.
Likewise, Lugo remembered that “Argentine President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner has not invited the government that has abruptly taken power in Paraguay”, and remarked that “the people has already started a series of demonstrations against Federico Franco.”
Furthemore, the former archbishop reiterated that his removal from office was a “parliamentary coup against the will of the people and conducted by a fake government.”
Argentina, which currently holds Mercosur’s rotating presidency, said Franco’s government would not be allowed to attend the meeting.
