Defence Minister Arturo Puricelli deemed UK Prime Minister David Cameron’s remarks ‘almost pathetic’ after the UK official spoke in the House of Commons yesterday, making clear his support for the Malvinas islanders’ referendum.
“It’s almost pathetic what Cameron said yesterday. It’s as if our President were to celebrate a referendum defining that residents of any province wanted to remain being Argentine,” Puricelli said today.
Yesterday, Cameron made it clear that he hoped the Islanders spoke “loud and clear” at the referendum foreseen to take place next year. The UK Prime Minister also underlined the “importance” of the action by Islanders “because Argentina is continually trying to hide this argument, pretending as if the views of the Falkland islanders don’t matter and they do matter.”
“It is impossible to refer to (the Malvinas) as a native land, but to a place that the English are usurping by force,” Puricelli furthered during a radio interview this morning.
