Judge backs CB restrictions on dollar withdrawals abroad

Rosario’s Federal Judge Sylvia Aramberri backed the Central Bank’s resolution for which all Argentines travelling abroad must have a bank account in dollars in order to withdraw greenback when making purchases in a foreign country; as the magistrate rejected an appeal presented by a group of citizens which considered the measure «inadmissible.»

Aramberri, who works at Rosario’s Federal Court N°2, rejected an appeal asking the magistrate to suspend the Central Bank’s communiqué «A 5294».

The norm was issued by Central Bank Governor Mercedes Marcó Del Pont and became effective on April 3.
If you have an Argentine peso-account, withdrawing dollars from an ATM will not be possible while abroad, the measure will not impede possibility of paying with debit card.

Alternatively, credit card users wanting to extract funds from abroad won’t be affected by the measure, at least according to what the Central Bank has currently disclosed.
