Opposition unionists to CGT Labour Confederation boss Hugo Moyano are setting a counter meeting after yesterday’s 130-unions summit organized by the former teamster, in order to study possible strategies before July’s CGT general elections.
Thus, independent unionists, the so called ‘fat cats’ group, and those unionists who respond to Gastronomic Workers’ Union head Luis Barrionuevo are met at the UOCRA Construction Workers’ Union headquarters after yesterday’s meeting in which 130 unions showed their unconditional support to Moyano and his reelection hopes.
Steelers’ Union head Antonio Caló, who aspires to replace Moyano as CGT Secretary General and counts on the support of the national government, is said to be officially chosen as the rival candidate for Moyano in the incoming elections.
UOCRA’s head Gerardo Martínez told reporters that opposition sectors “group 1,200 CGT congressmen willing to vote against Moyano”.
Meanwhile, Barrionuevo said “The time of Moyano is over, and he has to admit that he lost the majority.
Likewise, Barrionuevo set clouds over Calo’s hopes, “May be is not even Calo’s time neither”, and added, “It’s time of unionist unity, and my idea is to form a triumvirate leadership without Moyano.”
Participants include Armando Cavalieri (Trade Employees’ Union), Oscar Lescano (Power Workers), Carlos West Ocampo and Héctor Daer (Sanitation workers), Ricardo Pignanelli (SMATA auto industry workers), and Rodolfo Daer (Food Union), among others.
