After going on strike today, the Transport Workers Union (UTA) announced that if their conflict with the subway concessionary company Metrovias remains unresolved next week, they will carry an additional 48-hour strike.
The UTA, which groups subway drivers and keepers, joined the strike that the Subway and Premetro Tram Workers Union Association (AGTSyP) had called on Wednesday afternoon.
The AGTSyP, despite lacking legal recognition, was invited by the Labour Ministry this week in order to take part in the salary negotiations involving Metrovías and the subway’s workers.
The head of UTA, Roberto Fernández admitted that they do not think the problem will be solved any time soon and already warned about their next move: a 48-hour strike starting next Tuesday.
Despite the measure, officials remain cautious about the current state of negotiations between the parts and an additional decision by the AGTSyP, who may extend the strike just as it happened this week.
