Lescano: ‘Moyano has failed, and cannot continue’

CGT umbrella union member and secretary general of the power workers union, Oscar Lescano.
The head of the power workers union Oscar Lescano reiterated his criticisms against CGT Labour Confederation head Hugo Moyano, stating the leader has “failed and cannot continue” as the head of the umbrella union.
In addition, Lescano, who leads the “Fat Cats” within the union, stated that they sought to challenge the July 12 elections within the workers union. he also revealed that alongside other union leaders they are “trying their best to bring together the group” against Moyano.
“In our opinion, Moyano has failed, he cannot continue,” Lescano said in a radio interview today.
Yesterday almost 50 union figures in opposition to the leadership of CGT umbrella labour movement secretary-general Hugo Moyano met yesterday to discuss a legal strategy against a committee meeting called by Moyano for May 23.
“We discussed strategies to analyze a legal challenge to the Confederal Central Committee (CCC) meeting (called by Moyano for May 23),” the head of the ATSA sanitation workers union Héctor Daer told the media yesterday.
Daer added that there was “political consensus” between the participants and that they were reviewing “legal options” for pursuing this proposal. The union leaders decided to suspend the meeting until May 15, when the discussion will be resumed at the headquarters of the UOCRA construction workers union.
At the end of the meeting, UOCRA head Gerardo Martínez said that “the legality of the CCC meeting was observed and it was resolved that the same must be corroborated.”
Before the meeting began yesterday afternoon, Lescano stated that he was “unaware” of a rupture between the dissident groups and the current CGT leadership, although he added that he hoped that this would not happen and that Moyano would be “relieved” of his command as head of the CGT.
