Pinedo praises CFK’s inclusion of opposition in Penal Code reform committee

National lawmaker for the centre-right PRO party bloc, Federico Pinedo, praised President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner’s decision to include members of the opposition in the new committee which will decide the new plans for reform of the Penal Code, following the meeting held with Supreme Court Judge Eugenio Zaffaroni last night.
The national lawmaker admitted that although he thought the decision «unusual,» «unity is better than division, and it’s good to start somewhere.”
The PRO party lawmaker for the Lower House of Congress made the statements during a radio interview this morning, and referred to the meeting which took place last night at the Government House which put together a commission with in order to lay out the new Penal Code.
Commenting on the meeting, Pinedo stated that “there was a lot of analysis of theoretical situations; however a lot of concrete topics were discussed.”
The President signed a decree yesterday creating a work committee which will include Government members and those of the opposition to put together “within six months to a year” the plans for Penal Code reform.
