The CGT union confederation announced that the organization’s election process to pick a new leader will begin on May 23rd with the Central Confederal Committee and will end on July 12 when current head Hugo Moyano will seek reelection.
According to the secretary general of the Dockyard Workers’ Union, Juan Carlos Schmidt, the confederal committee will approved the incorporation of 30 new organizations to the CGT.
The CGT board of directors, headed by Moyano, met on Tuesday in the umbrella union’s headquarters.
Sources close to Moyano informed that the authorities present began the session after mustering quorum, even though leaders from the unions opposed to Moyano did not send in their representatives.
The meeting began minutes after 4 pm in the building located on Azopardo 800.
The organization’s leader Hugo Moyano was present, along with newspaper salesmen union Omar Plaini, and dockyard workers’ union Carlos Schmidt were also present.
The goal of the meeting was to pick a date to convene the Confederal Committee, the organization in charge of ratifying the decision to hold an election on July 12, in which workers will be able to pick the CGT’s next leader.
