Urtubey vows to investigate Salta tourists rape case

Amidst a scandal that includes the firing of a minister over his controversial statements, Salta governor Juan Manuel Urtubey vowed to personally look into a case involving two foreign tourist who claim were sexually assaulted. Salta is also the place where two French women were raped and killed last year.
“Tourists from the entire country and all over the world come to Salta every year without running into any inconveniences. If one of them is a victim of a crime, the government will look into it, investigate and eventually punish those responsible,” he said.
“The fact that visitors put a lot of trust in the people of Salta should not be considered a mistake, but something to be proud of,” he added.
On Saturday, Urtubey fired his Security Minister Maximiliano Troyano after he made some controversial statements during a press conference.
When asked about a rape case involving two female tourists from Japan and the US, Troyano replied that their decision to trust their attacker had been “imprudent.”
